I have a long arm quilting machine and can get a king size quilt under
the arm with little to no bunching. I've been machine quilting since 1972 and pretty much stay with simple easy free flowing
or in the ditch quiltling. By doIng this my prices allow you to be creative, make the top and get it finished without breaking
the bank. I charge for each step of the quilt process so you pay only for what you need done. If you want something
more than what is offered, be sure to let me know and I will consider it.
Pin notes to the quilt if you have areas of concern . . . most of the
time I can ease in areas that do not lay flat. Your quilt does not need to be exactly a square or rectangle. I do not put
it on a roller frame so there is room for flexibility if your quilt has been giving you problems.
Send me the top,
any batting you might have and the backing if you already have it separately. I'll layer it for quilting. I lay
them out on a big table and clamp it down, then put a whole lot of pins in the quilt to hold the three layers in place. I
do not guarantee pucker free backs but they are usually pucker free or very small puckers, depending on the fabric used.
PRICING is done by the square inch because no two quilts
are the same size.
To get the square inches: width x length = square inches ( Example 40x56=2240 sq. in.)
To get the perimeter (Edge) width+length x 2 (40+56=96 x 2=192 inches)
THREAD: I can only use clear thread on top of
the quilt which is nice because it does not interfere with your design. The bottom thread is whatever color of fabric is on
the bottom of the quilt. Sometimes if the top is white and the bottom is black it might be better to use white thread on the
bottom, but I would discuss this with you first.
BACKING: you are more than welcome to send your own
backing. It NEEDS TO BE 4" LARGER than the top (Example a quilt 100"x100" needs a backing 104"x104")
Sheets work just fine. Sheets with a lower thread count work better than those with a high thread count. Sew and press the
seam for the backing if using fabric or I can do it for you. It's a good idea to prewash the backing to get out any
starch or extra dye in the fabric.
I have several solid colors that can be used for backing quilts. Click
on Color Chart for your choices. The fabric is usually a polyester/cotton blend and is $4 a yard. I charge by the square inch
for the fabric so you are not paying for any left over. I prewash all my backing fabrics.
If you want to send a
fabric for the backing, let me know the size of the quilt and I can give you yardage.
Be sure your quilt top is
pressed also . . . it quilts up better.
BATTING: You are welcome to send batting you already
have or you can get it from me. I charge by the square inch so you are not paying for waste.
I have a good
quality high loft polyester batting which gives the quilt a hearty feel and holds up well with washing.
If you want the old fashion look, I also have a cotton batting that has been bonded so it too will holds up
in washing.
CROSS STITCH QUILT TOPS: if you have done a cross stitch
quilt top with the little blue dots. . . press only right at the seam line, not the whole block. If it has taken you
a long time to get them done and the fabric is yellowed, stained with coffee/tea...send it just as is..wash it after it has
been quilted. Ironing might set the blue dots and stains in so you can't get them out. The stains do not bother me. If
there are long dangly threads on the back, you might want to clip them because once quilted, they might show through and be
unslightly.
REPAIRS: I have repaired quilts that a dog enjoyed a little
too much. Let me repair it before you wash it. I have dogs and their smells do not bother me. Many times I can applique fabric
right over the tears, but of course I need to see it first. Take a picture, Email it and I probably can give you a good
idea of what needs to be done before you send it.
FINISHING THE EDGE: Rolled edge: I roll
the back of the quilt to the front or the front of the quilt to the back and machine stitch it down.
Added Edge:
I sew a different color of fabric for the edge on top of the quilt and either you or I can do the hand finishing on the back.
I'm not clever enough to do curved edges.
MARKING A DESIGN TO QUILT: If you have a desigh
you want quilted in plain areas, you can mark it ahead of time with whatever marking pen you like as long as it is visible.
I can follow the lines with the machine needle. Send me an email with the design and I will let you know if there would
be an extra charge. Most of the time there is no extra fee. If I mark the design, I use a blue pen that fades
away in washing.
There is no extra charge for a silhouette design I can cut from paper and quilt around. They can
be any size. Unless you specify the size, I will cut it to fit the area. Just send me a picture and I'll take it from
there.

TURN AROUND TIME is usually two weeks, but DO NOT wait
until the last minute to get it done. There is a rush charge. My busy months are usually April, May, Nov. Dec. and it
may take longer during those times. If you need something during those months, make a reservation ahead of time to make
sure you get your gift back on time.
